407 Training Visa Assistance
A worthwhile training opportunity needs more than an invitation from a business. The learning activities, supervision and participant’s background must be considered together. TILSAVV helps trainees and organisations assess whether the Subclass 407 Training visa is an appropriate pathway.

Training with a defined purpose
The 407 visa supports eligible occupational training and professional development in Australia. It is a temporary training pathway, with stays of up to two years depending on the circumstances. It should not be presented as an ordinary work visa or a guaranteed route to permanent residence.
Home Affairs identifies training for occupational registration, training to improve skills in an eligible occupation, and training for overseas capacity building. The requirements differ between these categories. We begin by identifying the purpose of the proposed program.
Assess the organisation and trainee together
For the organisation, we ask who will provide the training, where it will occur, who will supervise it and how progress will be recorded. For the participant, we examine qualifications, relevant experience, current visa circumstances and the connection between existing skills and proposed learning.
A generic duty list does not explain a training need. A useful brief identifies the skills to be developed, activities that teach those skills, supervision arrangements and how development will be assessed.
Check the order of sponsorship, nomination and visa steps
Current Home Affairs guidance states that 407 applicants must have an approved sponsor and nomination before applying. Exceptions and the applicable process must be checked for the individual arrangement. Do not plan lodgement solely around an employer’s informal promise.
Temporary activities sponsorship is distinct from Standard Business Sponsorship used for other sponsored work pathways. An organisation should not assume that its existing approval covers every proposed visa program.
Prepare a training brief that can be assessed
Before your consultation, prepare a participant CV, qualification records, relevant employment history and a description of the intended training. Organisations should gather business details, worksite information, proposed supervisors and available program material.
Keep the training objectives specific. Explain why each activity is included, who will teach it and what records will show completion. Identify missing information rather than filling gaps with claims the organisation cannot support.
Support from TILSAVV
The agreed scope may include pathway assessment, sponsorship and nomination enquiries, review of supporting material and application preparation. We distinguish immigration assistance from the organisation’s responsibility to design and deliver genuine training.
If the main goal is ongoing employment, a separate employer-sponsored assessment may be appropriate. A different pathway requires its own eligibility checks. We document the proposed work and fees before proceeding.
Common questions
Is 407 a general work visa?
It is intended for eligible training. The actual activities and applicable visa conditions need assessment.
Does training automatically lead to permanent residence?
No. A later visa has separate sponsorship, nomination and applicant requirements.
Should we prepare a plan before seeking advice?
Bring an outline of objectives, activities and supervision. We can identify the immigration questions that need to be resolved.
