Types of Employer Sponsored Visas

Australia offers a range of employer-sponsored visa options to help skilled workers contribute to the workforce. Each visa subclass has different requirements based on job type, location, and long-term plans.

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa – Subclass 482

The TSS Visa, Subclass 482, lets Australian employers sponsor skilled overseas workers for up to four years when local talent is unavailable. Eligible applicants need a job offer from an approved sponsor, relevant qualifications, and English proficiency (e.g., IELTS 5.0). Medium-Term stream holders may transition to permanent residency via Subclass 186 or 187 after three years.

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa – Subclass 186

The ENS Visa, Subclass 186, grants permanent residency to skilled workers nominated by an approved Australian employer. Applicants need an MLTSSL occupation, three years’ experience, and often a skills assessment. It offers full work and residency rights, with Direct Entry or Temporary Residence Transition streams.

Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa – Subclass 494

The Subclass 494 visa supports skilled workers in regional Australia for up to five years. Applicants under 45 need a job offer from a regional employer for a Regional Occupation List role. It offers regional incentives and a permanent residency pathway via Subclass 191 after three years.

Training Visa – Subclass 407

The Training Visa, Subclass 407, enables up to two years of workplace-based training for professional development. Applicants need a structured training plan from an approved sponsor and relevant qualifications. It enhances career skills but doesn’t directly lead to permanent residency.
