Preparing for your consultation
Make your first migration consultation more useful
A clear summary of your situation helps your adviser focus on the questions that matter. You do not need a polished application before contacting TILSAVV. Start with your goals, your current visa situation and any approaching deadlines.
This guide suggests what to prepare for an initial conversation. It is not a visa application checklist.

1. Explain what you want to achieve
Write a few sentences about your goal. Are you hoping to study, explore employer sponsorship, join your partner or understand a visa decision? Explain who is involved and when you hope to take the next step. If you are unsure of the correct subclass, say so.
2. Identify deadlines and decision notices
If you have a visa grant notice or a refusal or cancellation decision, keep it available for your appointment. Record when you received it and any dates mentioned in the notice. Raise urgent timing issues when booking instead of waiting for the consultation. Do not assume that an enquiry or appointment extends a deadline.
3. Summarise your visa and personal history
Prepare a brief timeline of your current visa, earlier applications and important changes. Mention previous refusals or cancellations and any conditions you are unsure about. Include relevant changes in work, study, family or relationships. A short, accurate timeline is more useful than an incomplete account.
4. Bring information relevant to your goal
- For employment pathways: a CV, proposed job duties and employer details.
- For a Partner visa discussion: a relationship timeline and examples of records you already hold.
- For study: the proposed course, provider and study history.
- For a visa decision review: the complete decision notice and relevant correspondence.
These are consultation preparation suggestions. Your adviser will explain which documents are actually needed for your matter. Use the secure document channel supplied to you; do not place passport details or sensitive evidence in a public comment.
5. Prepare your questions
Ask which options need assessment, what remains uncertain, what further evidence is needed and what the next step involves. Ask about the scope of assistance, professional fees, government charges and communication arrangements. Keep a written note of the advice and any tasks agreed.
