Employer sponsored migration

Understand the Skills in Demand visa pathway

The Skills in Demand visa (subclass 482) is a temporary employer sponsored visa. TILSAVV helps Australian businesses and workers understand the sponsorship, nomination and visa steps before preparing an application.

Discuss your circumstances with Mmanu Bhardwaj, Registered Migration Agent, MARN 2518871.

Three streams, different requirements

Subclass 482 includes the Core Skills, Specialist Skills and Labour Agreement streams. The correct stream depends on the proposed role, employer and applicant. English language requirements apply to primary applicants, with exemptions in some circumstances; Labour Agreement requirements may differ.

Before choosing a stream, ask us to check the position, occupation, salary arrangements, work history and any relevant skills assessment or English evidence. A job title alone does not establish eligibility.

For Australian employers

Start with a clear description of the role you need to fill: duties, work location, proposed remuneration and the skills your business requires. Tell us whether your business already has sponsorship approval or a labour agreement, and whether recruitment has begun.

Our consultation can identify the information needed to assess sponsorship and nomination requirements. We explain which matters need further evidence and help you organise a practical preparation plan. Do not assume that approval of one step means all remaining steps will succeed.

For workers considering sponsorship

Bring a current CV, your passport details, your Australian visa grant notice if applicable, and information about the proposed employer and role. Tell us about earlier applications or refusals and any upcoming visa expiry date. Use a secure channel for documents and avoid putting passport numbers in a general enquiry.

We can help you identify questions to resolve before committing to an application, including whether the proposed pathway fits your experience and circumstances.

Questions to ask before applying

Does sponsorship guarantee a visa?

No. Sponsorship, nomination and the visa application are separate matters. The relevant requirements and decisions must be considered for each.

Will a 482 visa automatically give me permanent residence?

No. Any later permanent visa pathway has its own requirements and requires a separate assessment. We can discuss your longer-term plans without promising an outcome.

How much will it cost and how long will it take?

Costs and processing information change. Ask for an itemised service quote and check current Home Affairs fees and processing guidance. We do not promise a grant date.
